Two anthems for Pentecost. The first by the eminent organist Peter Hurford. This anthem always reminds me of the music of Gerald Finzi; quintessentially English with an underpinning of Bach. Peter Hurford was born, perhaps auspiciously, on St. Cecelia’s Day, 1930. He is best known as an organist having recorded the complete works of Bach for organ on the Decca label.
The second is by Thomas Attwood, who is remembered more as a pupil of Mozart and friend to Mendelssohn than a composer of note.
